NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE 2021

Hey girl! It is that time of the year again… The Nordstrom Anniversary sale! There is kind of a lot of controversy in regards to this sale and you either love it or you hate it. Personally, I do not go nuts over the sale because at the end of the day it is just stuff and you do not need it all. HOWEVER, I do think everyone should have a pair of the SPANX leggings, they are a MUST if you do not already have a pair. 😉

I am also not a huge fan of seeing the SAME content on IG stories from popular influencers who treat the sale like the “Super Bowl of swipes-ups”. It is just annoying to me! So, instead of following the influencer crowd, I decided to put together items that I actually own, love, and would repurchase again. Let’s get into it!

I own these booties in all three colors and although I did not really get to wear them last year due to covid they are by far the most comfortable boot to walk all day in. TRUST ME, I wore these day/night walking through downtown Chicago. I specifically like the open toe and the side cut out. I think it makes the boot stand out and look more stylish.

Okay, let’s talk boobs! It is extremely difficult for me to find a bra that actually fits COMFORTABLY. I really love these two brands because the quality is incredible and a great fit for those of us that are more on the busty size. I wear a 32G.

Nothing major in this category, just two products that I use quite often. I have been using AVEDA products for over 10 years now and I love everything about the brand. The ingredients are clean and I owe how healthy my hair is to them!

Moving on to the ORIBE dry shampoo and texturizing spray… I use the dry shampoo a lot, but I have not tried the texturizing spray just yet. This will be one of my Nsale purchases this year so I can re-stock on the dry shampoo and test out the texturizing spray. My favorite thing about this brand is all of their products smell AMAZING!

Skincare has become EXTREMELY important to me and listen to me when I say INVEST IN YOUR SKIN!!! I started my skincare journey in 2019 and have become obsessed with researching products and educating myself on what really works and the type of ingredients brands use. Sunday Riley has become one of my absolute favorite brands to re-purchase their products. Clarins is also another brand that I am going to look into more after falling in love with this double serum. I use it every day, morning and night. It is light, doesn’t feel sticky, and has definitely brightened my cheek area where my cystic acne was the worst. Excited to try the eye cream that comes in the set!!

Real quick on the setting spray. I do not wear makeup a whole lot since I work from home. However, if I go out with my girlfriends or have an event this setting spray is a game-changer (especially in the summertime). I was struggling with a specific foundation that I wasn’t loving, but it was pricey so I wanted to make it work. The foundation kept smearing and I just felt like it was not good even though people RAVE about this brand. I spilled all of my tea to a professional makeup artist and said she swore by Urban Decay’s setting spray. I had never really used a settings spray before because I would usually use MAC’s hydro charge mist (which is not a setting spray). I still use both, but it is nice to have this a part of the sale so I can keep one and gift the other.

Now scent. Flowerbomb is my absolute favorite. I love the story behind it and it just truly speaks to my personality. VIKTOR & ROLF came up with the name Flowerbomb and said to one another that the bottle needed to reflect this feeling of something that has an aggressive edge, but also something very glamorous and luxurious. Thus, the diamond grenade bottle was designed. The scent is an explosive floral bouquet, unexpected and ultra-feminine, delicious and sensual. Parfum is always expensive, so the fact that this comes in a set with a full-size bottle is a very good deal.

HOW I WAKE MY FACE UP IN THE MORNING.

I would consider myself a morning person, but not a “hit the ground running” type of person. I am more of a slow riser and need a little TLC in the morning. So what do I do besides guzzle coffee to wake my mind and skin up in the morning?

Let’s discuss!

I typically wake up at 6:30 AM with tired eyes and a puffy face, cute right? I work from home, so I do not immediately wash my face first thing in the morning. Instead, I take a clean washcloth and run it under hot water, then hold the washcloth over my eyes and press/rub gently… I get the cloth hot again and repeat this process for maybe a minute or two.

After I feel alive again I may or may not use eye drops (it just depends on how red my eyes are that morning). If I do need drops that day I will apply and then hold the warm rag over my eyes again. After that, I wipe my face with the cloth, then massage my face with my current FAVORITE face oil by SUNDAY RILEY. After this, we head downstairs and start part two!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen my stories where I post myself with my collagen eye masks on and ice rolling my face. I can NOT say enough about how important this is to my AM routine. The cold eye masks and ice roller feel so soothing on my face and I immediately feel refreshed, relaxed, and ready to tackle the workday!

VOLUME… LENGTH… FULLNESS…

I love the look of false lashes, but I never wear them except for special occasions, so good mascara is a priority for me!! These are my top 5.

Tarte’s Big Ego – How cute is the hot pink tube though? This mascara is my everyday go-to! I feel so sexy when I have this one on my eyes. My lashes legit look like I am wearing false lashes. The fluffy brush really makes my lashes so full and lengthens really well.
Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara – Honestly, this mascara is a #1 as well… It was one of those “if you had to choose one” type of situations and it is the hot pink tube for me. So this mascara really lengthens and thickens, while keeping lashes separate and never clumpy. Perfect one coat, daily mascara!
Benefit’s BAD gal Bang – What I like about this mascara is the wand. The skinny bristles reach every single lash individually, giving you maximum lift. I actually use this mascara on top of others because of how well it combs out and lengthens the lashes.
Benefit’s BAD gal Lash – Literally the exact opposite of Bang, but so so good! You know a mascara is good if it is out of stock everywhere… I like how well the wand thickens your lashes and gives major buildable volume.
it’s LASH BLOW OUT – This mascara is a collaboration between it Cosmetics and Drybar. The wand is designed to look just like Drybar’s signature yellow blowout barrel brush! So cute! The formula is infused with biotin, jojoba oil, Vitamin E, and collagen to help strengthen and condition lashes! You can’t beat that!

Why you should be incorporating Vitamin C serum into your daily skincare routine.

First of all, not all Vitamin C serums are created equal. In this post I will break down the components, ingredients, and even the importance of what type of bottle, or tube that is used.

What does Vitamin C serum do for my skin?

Lightens Complexion
Brightens Skintone
Prevents Common Signs of Aging
Promotes Collagen Production
Promotes Filling in Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Reduces Appearance of Under Eye Circles
Heals Acne and Blemishes
Hydrates and Moisturizes the Skin
Helps Protect Against Sun Damage
Reduces Hyperpigmentation

So, when should you apply Vitamin C?

You want to apply your serum, both morning and evening on clean skin, after toner but before moisturizer and SPF (obviously no SPF at night).

How do I know if a Serum is good quality, or not?

Make sure you read the ingredients and also pay attention to the packaging:

10%-20% L-ascorbic acid
Tocopherol (Vitamin E) or glutathione, ferulic acid
Airtight packaging
A dark or tinted bottle, or tube.

Why is packaging so important?

Exposure to air, light and heat can degrade your serum. You really want to use a product that comes in a dark glass bottle with a medicine dropper, rather than a pump. A tube also works and that is how my current serums are packaged. However, if the product has a really high percentage of ascorbic acid, it should be packaged in a dark glass bottle anyway since this form will react to plastic. Another point on the packaging has to do with the size of the Vitamin C serum bottle. The most common sizes are at 1oz. Based on personal experience, usually one can go through 75% of the 1 oz bottle before it starts to oxidize. Purchasing a 2oz or a 3oz bottle means you’re throwing your money down the drain!

What about cost, do I need an expensive serum? $$ vs. $$$$

Okay, so here is the deal… I have been researching “top serums” from basically every reputable website you can possibly imagine and there are pros and cons to everything… Go figure! “sigh face”.

After my research, I have found that there are certain serums that keep popping up across the board on most site’s top favorites. You’re welcome because I have done all the grunt work for you and linked them below. 😉

Let’s dig in to the TOP 10

SKINCEUTICALS – $166

This serum made number 1 across the board on basically almost every single site, so what’s the hype?

The ingredients… 15% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), 1% vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), and 0.5% ferulic acid. Remember what I said earlier about reading the ingredients? Well, gangs all here!!!

OBAGI – $133

Another high-end skincare line, so of course it makes the list across the board. At the max of 20%, this potent serum definitely has me throwing money into my coin jar…

DRUNK ELEPHANT – $80

15% L-Ascorbic Acid plus Ferulic Acid and 1% Vitamin E. This serum seems to be the most “well-known” popular girl in school and I am here for it. This airtight bottle has been raved about and there are plenty of YouTube videos to win you over as well.

TATCHA – $88

This serum also contains 20% Vitamin C, as well as 10% AHA (alhpha-hydroxy Acid). What is nice about this product is that it is made of two different types of Vitamin C. The serum includes water and oil-soluble derivative. Whether you have dry, or oily skin this product works great for many different skin types.

L’Oréal REVIATLIFT DERM INTENSIVE VITAMIN C – $29.99

This is the Vitamin C serum I use during the day. It contains 10% Vitamin C, which is a great place to start if you have never used Vitam C serums before. What caught my eye to buy was a few magazine articles that mentioned that makeup artists loved using this underneath makeup because not only is it a good boost for the skin, but also a great primer. I couldn’t agree more! A few key takeaways on why I love this specific product…

The packaging is on point!

Stabilized in a metal tube for zero UV exposure
5% Nitrogen Blanket Technology that shields the formula from direct contact with the outside lining of metal.
Cap ensures minimal oxygen exposure to formula during usage (oxygen is unable to enter the tube)

CLINIQUE FRESH PRESSED DAILY BOOSTER – $79

The Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster with Vitamin C 10% is a vitamin C booster serum that you mix with your moisturizer. The product comes in a vial that you mix up before you start using, and it’s only supposed to last you 1 week and then discarded. If you have never tried Vitam C before and you have sensitive skin, this might be a good option to consider.

OLE HENRISKEN TRUTH SERUM – $50

In Ole Henriksen’s own words:

OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Serum is like a daily multivitamin for the skin and our #1 age-defying & vitamin C face serum. Ole was an early adopter of vitamin C in skin care, believing that its antioxidant properties and role in promoting collagen make it a crucial ingredient. This potent True-C Complex(TM) and collagen serum help brighten and firm the skin as it delivers all-day hydration.

This serum has two stabilized forms of Vitamin C listed as the 2nd and 3rd ingredients after water. The 3rd being Calcium Ascorbate which is Ester C (less irritating than others.) The 2nd being Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (very stable and concentrated.) Stability is what you need to look for: simple Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is not stable and henceforth will not do your skin any good. This serum is loaded with skin-nourishing extracts of all kinds (many of them fruit extracts.) There are healing ingredients (aloe being just one). It also contains a healthy dose of Sodium Hyaluronate which binds hundreds of times its weight in water without being greasy, emollient, or occlusive to the skin.

LA ROCHE-POSAY PURE VITAMIN C10 – $39.99

This is a new ascorbic acid serum from La Roche-Posay, not their first ascorbic acid product, though the first in a serum form. The main ingredient is ascorbic acid, an exceptional anti-oxidant. It does a great job at brightening the skin and improving collagen production. Another component, salicylic acid is excellent for mild exfoliation and enhancing skin’s texture, though there’s not much of it. There’s also a peptide – neurosensine, developed by LRP. It’s a combination of two amino-acids arginine and tyrosyl which has skin soothing properties.
On top of that, there is hyaluronic acid and glycerine to keep the skin moisturised.

Key Ingredients:

10% Pure Vitamin C: hydrates skin and visibly boosts radiance
Salicylic Acid: helps to purify and refine skin’s tone and texture
La Roche-Posay Prebiotic Thermal Water:offers hydrating, soothing, and antioxidant properties.
Glycerin: a moisturizing agent that naturally attracts water to the skin

TRUSKIN VITAMIN C SERUM – $19.99

Thousands of positive Amazon reviews all come to one conclusion: this is the best vitamin C serum you can get with two-day delivery and for less than $20 bucks. 4.3 stars and 56,606 reviews. I know this serum will most likely not be as potent as others, but I do like that it contains witch hazel, with is good for decreasing inflammation. The serum also has organic jojoba oil, which is very hydrating. Not a bad idea to just toss this into your next Amazon order!

GLOW RECIPE PINEAPPLE – C BRIGHT SERUM – $49

This cute little guy is getting a lot of hype because it has three forms of Vitamin C including 22% Pineapple juice that is one of the most powerful forms of natural vitamin C. The pineapple has natural AHAs and bromelain enzymes that gently exfoliate. It has built-in skin soothers such as chamomile and aloe that gives skin a refreshed look. Such a two for one brightening up your skincare shelf and skin all at the same time! 😉

MY DAILY SKINCARE PRODUCTS AND ROUTINE.

If you read my last blog post, then you would understand why I take skincare so seriously now. It took one full year to completely clear my skin of cystic acne and during that journey, I started to really educate myself on skincare products. What to use, when and how to use, etc.

Let’s get into it and breakdown my AM/PM products and why I use them.

In the morning I wash my face with the Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser. My dermatologist highly recommended this cleanser, which makes sense because it is the “#1 Dermatologist Recommended Skincare Brand”.

After I cleanse my face, I use Thayers Facial Toner. This best-selling toner is not only alcohol-free but is also is formulated with undistilled witch hazel, aloe vera, and rose water to calm inflamed skin.

6 reasons why you need toner in your skincare routine:

It shrinks your pores.
It restores your skin’s pH balance.
It adds a layer of protection and helps close/tighten pores.
It acts as a moisturizer.
It refreshes the skin.

Are you using Vitamin C? If not we need to change that right now! I discovered the benefits of this magical little serum when I started my skincare journey a year ago. If you google “The Best Vitamin C Serums, According to Dermatologists“, this Loreal Revitalift makes the cut and I am loving it for my morning routine. Here’s why:

The serum is free of fragrance, parabens, mineral oils, and synthetic dyes, so it won’t irritate your skin or cause unwanted breakouts.

BUT, the reason I am loving this specifically for the morning is it feels more like a light velvety lotion than a serum and is a GREAT primer for your foundation.

Retinol is a type of vitamin A that occurs naturally in the skin. This serum helps stimulate the production of healthy new skin cells. I can not RAVE about this face oil enough! I received a sample of this in my IPSY Glam Bag and fell in love. I typically am not a huge oil fan because I don’t want to feel greasy, but this has changed my mind completely. I take the dropper and slide it over each side of my face and pat the oil in. After that, I am good to go to apply makeup, or stay makeup-free like usual!

If I have a lot of makeup on, or I just feel like treating myself I use the ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm. This soothing balm melts into a rich cleansing oil to dissolve make-up and impurities on the skin. Upon contact with water, it emulsifies to a hydrating milk that easily rinses off. I usually will leave the balm on for up to 10 minutes while I shower and just enjoy the experience.

Once my cystic acne cleared and my focus shifted from acne to hyperpigmentation and dark spots, I decided to start researching acids and their skin benefits. This brand is HANDS DOWN the best as far as ingredients and effectiveness. I use one exfoliating pad maybe 3-4 times a week in place of using a toner.

About the acids: AHAs and PHAs (alpha-hydroxy and polyhydroxy) brighten and refine texture. BHAs (beta-hydroxy) gently exfoliate excess buildup to clarify pore lining. TXA (tranexamic) reduces the look of discoloration and evens tone.

This was my first Vitamin C serum purchase and I am on my third tube if that tells you how much I love this serum. One thing you REALLY need to know about Vitamin C serums is how they are packaged and stored. One mistake skincare companies are making is allowing their vitamin c serums to be exposed to light and oxygen. Vitamin C is an unstable molecule that will oxidize when exposed to light. An eye dropper exposes the vitamin C serum to oxygen the first time you open it, starting the oxidization process.

Thus, why I love the packaging of the two Vitamin C serums that I use daily!
